A top 20 finisher each of the past two seasons, No. 17 Kent State heads to the 2012 NCAA Championship held at Riviera Country Club (Calif.) May 29- June 3 looking to continue its run of postseason successes.? Making their 16th finals appearance in school history, the Golden Flashes hold the distinction of being one of only eight schools have reach the Championship in each of the last three years and are one of only five in the 2012 field to finish in the top 20 during that span. ?
Kent State is the 16th seed in the 30-team field bringing a national ranking of 17 by Golfstat.com and16 by Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.

Format

Hosted by USC, the 2012 NCAA Championship consists of 54-holes of stroke play over three days at the par 71, 7,292-yard Riviera Country Club.? The 30 teams will compete head-to-head starting on Tuesday, May 29.? First round play for the Golden Flashes starts at 7:00 a.m. (PST) off hole No. 1.? After the three rounds are complete, an individual medalist will be crowned and the top eight teams will advanced to a single elimination match-play bracket with 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5. Teams will be seeded in order of their stroke play finish. Match-play quarterfinals start on Friday, June 1 with the semifinals on June 2 and championship match on June 3.???? ?

The Course
Riviera, which opened for play in 1927, has hosted the 1998 U.S. Senior Open, the 1995 and 1983 PGA Championships and the 1948 U.S. Open, which was the first time the U.S. Open was played west of the Rockies. The Club began hosting the Los Angeles Open in 1929, an event that was reincarnated as the Northern Trust Open. The 2012 NCAA Championships will mark the first time Riviera has hosted an amateur event.? The course has also been selected to host the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship. ?

For the second straight year Kent State heads to the NCAA finals having gone up against 20 of the 29 teams in the field.? The Golden Flashes have totaled 36 rounds with an 18-17-1 record.

Kent State NCAA Championship History
The 2012 season marks the 25th time Kent State has qualified for NCAA play. The Golden Flashes are making their 16th appearance at the NCAA Championship and fourth in the last five years.
Kent State tied for 19th at the NCAA Championship a year ago led by Kevin Miller?s 223 which tied him for 38th. ?

In the 2008 visit, David Markle led the team to a program-best sixth-place finish at Purdue University?s Kampen Course. With a 1204 team score over 72-holes, Kent State placed just 10 strokes back of national champion UCLA. Now a pro on the now on the eGolf Professional Tour, Markle tied for ninth on his way to earning All-American honors.

Current PGA Tour member Ben Curtis and Nationwide Tour member Jon Mills, along with Danny Sahl, Brian Miller and Jonah Karzmer, led the Kent State program to a ninth-place finish at the 2000 Championship held at Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Okla. Sahl tied for 24th with a four-under 284 to pace the team.

The Golden Flashes finished 13th at the 1994 Championship held at Stonebridge Country Club in McKinney, Tex. behind the play of All-American Eric Frishette and current Ohio State head coach Donnie Darr, who each tied for 25th overall at even-par 288. Also representing Kent State were current Nationwide tour members Brian DeCorso and Kevin Kraft along with Boo Blackman.
Hahn?s performance last year equlaed that of Mills who now shares the top individual finish for Kent State.? Mills shot a six-under 282 and placed sixth in 2001 at the Duke University Golf Club after he tied for 30th with Curtis in 2000.

In 1990, Brian Bridges won the Ben Hogan Award and tied for 17th after shooting a two-over 290 at Innisbrook Resort in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
