Speaking of Tongues ? Travel Writing in Cambodia

posted by Satyam Kaswala

Teenagers shook off their shoes before trickling into the Journeys Within Our Communities classroom. Some of us in the study abroad group volunteered to help teach an English conversation class to the young Cambodian students, who seemed eager to be armed with a language that could serve as a weapon against poverty and potentially propel them to higher paying jobs, satisfying careers and other intellectual pursuits. They sat in desks arranged like a rainbow, the white board serving as the space between the pots of gold. The instructor, Andrea, directed us to work with groups of a few students each and handed us a sheet of paper with an English exercise on it. The story spilled on the paper told a simple tale of a couple debating whether to tour the Grand Canyon by helicopter or by bus. My use of the term ?simple? here is shortsighted.

??Helicopter?? one student asked. It disarmed me.

??????????? The spinning blades of the fan above us chopped the air, and I quickly pointed to them hoping it would spark some association in their mind. My pointing finger began to twirl erratically as if stuck in the fan?s whirlwind current as I further tried to mimic the motion of a chopper?s blades.

??????????? The students looked at me like I just stole their mail. They were puzzled.

??????????? I tried to describe it with some spare English. I scribbled a drawing of what some would interpret as a helicopter on the corner of the paper.

??????????? ?Oh!? one student exclaimed. I still don?t know whether she recognized the helicopter or simply acknowledged the act of creation.

??????????? I thought of the history of the machine in the region in an effort to maybe draw a connection, seeking to invoke the students? understanding of their nation?s recent memory. The United States invaded Cambodia in the 1970s under the Nixon administration. It hurtled bombs at the eastern part of the country. Helicopters carried some of those bombs. That was all I could think of, and I didn?t know how to use it.

??????????? I had no ground to stand on. How could I relate this concept that was basic to me but foreign to the students without using words? It is true that most communication does not come from words. Still, having language as a vehicle for communication was something I was so accustomed to that when it was rendered useless, I felt stranded. And when gestures don?t work and drawings don?t work, I?m left to wonder: is it possible that some things simply cannot be communicated?

??????????? On a personal level, art, for instance, conveys ideas for which words might not even exist. As does emotion itself. But the exchange I had existed on a cultural level. Surely all of us knew what a helicopter was, but we still could not quite convince each other of it. This exchange was a microcosm of the larger fundamental struggle of intercultural dialogue. We often consider language to be the most immediate form of this dialogue. Here again that immediacy was shaken. There is a popular slogan plastered on countless shirts sold in the Siem Reap markets: ?SAME SAME, BUT DIFFERENT.? Somehow this perplexing sentence never made more sense than when I was in that classroom.

There are ideas in Cambodian culture for which I as an American have no point of reference in my culture and vise versa. At least some of those students likely came from the impoverished Cambodian countryside that modernity eluded. Of course, despite the fact that they might not be able to cloak their ideas, struggles, longings, realities or thoughts in a particularly popular and acceptable language that the world can understand, other seemingly poor, rural Cambodians still have untold treasures of knowledge, language and expression equally as complex and vital as something like English. So much so that I was left to wonder for a moment why it was me that was teaching them my language and not the other way around, especially since I was in their country. I thought of Henry David Thoreau:

?It is a ridiculous demand?which?England and America make, that you shall speak so that they can understand you.?
Indeed, these students were learning my language because the world at large chose to understand English, the favored medium of expression between cultures in this age of globalization. However, in the classroom I saw English being used not necessarily as a ridiculous, demanding commodity but rather as a means to understand others, their cultures, their ideas. We were making a sincere effort, and that was the most important step.

It was a challenge. But when I smiled or laughed, they did too. This unspoken communication was the most authentic I had with them that day. Some things may not be readily understood or expressed, but that does not mean they are not universal.

?Education is the key to success,? became a phrase I grew to loath when I was younger. My teachers and parents would incessantly repeat this phrase as if to hammer it into my brain, though unsuccessful with their attempts. After growing older, getting my act together and maturing in many ways I know now that my elders were completely correct, a good education is a valuable and necessary possession. On Thursday afternoon I casually strolled into the JWOC English class with thoughts of what I would eat for dinner and how good I would sleep clouding my mind. Class began and I was immediately brought back to Earth through my first interaction with a Cambodian student. The sudden reality of the moment hit me, and I realized that I could actually help these people.

As a high school and college student I studied the Spanish language for some years. Even after all the hours of studying I still would not call myself fluent in the language. The English class at JWOC challenged students with a more rigorous workload than any of my college Spanish classes. The teacher, an American, spoke only English to the class for the entire hour. The students were delightful and eager to learn, but many did not know English as well as I expected them to. As the class went on I began to form a new found respect for teachers. It is a hard job to be patient when you feel that your student should know something that they don?t. Teachers must have a light heart and an understanding for others that some would not be able to muster. My regard not only grew for teachers but for the students, trying to their hardest to carry on a conversation with me and at the same time being very careful as not to embarrass themselves. The effort they gave in that hour was, in my eyes, inspiring. Their huge smiles, awkward giggles, and intense effort to understand was unlike anything I?ve witnessed before.

The class came to an end, and as they packed up their things, filed out the door and thanked me, I watched as the students hopped onto their motorbikes and drove away. Standing in the room empty of students I felt a lump in my throat filled with things unsaid. I wanted to tell them that their hunger to learn was inspiring to me. I wanted to tell the ones that were struggling to keep pushing through until it came easy, because they were improving their lives by just sitting in the class and learning. I wanted to tell them that they were more courageous than I have ever been. I wanted to thank them for introducing me to something I have not seen in many people, a true desire to be better for themselves and for their families.

A non-profit organization like JWOC is so important to this community because a price cannot be put on the value of a good education. It opens doors to all who have the ambition and put in the work. A twinge of ignorance and juvenility pulses through my body as I look back on my attitude about the importance of learning. The students in the English class will never know this, but they taught me a lot about life that day.

julio - CJNEWS INDIA: WIPO Must Strengthen Its Technology Dispute ...

World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) is a well known name in the fields of intellectual property rights (IPRs) and dispute resolution. WIPO has its own Arbitration and Mediation Centre (AMC) that provides world renowned dispute resolution services.

WIPO also provides world class domain name dispute resolution services. Parties to the dispute can draw upon a growing database of over 1,500 independent WIPO arbitrators, mediators and experts from 70 countries. The candidates on the WIPO List of Neutrals range from seasoned dispute resolution generalists to highly specialized practitioners and experts covering the entire legal and technical spectrum of intellectual property. Their geographical diversity suits the international character of many disputes. The general WIPO List of Neutrals is not made available as such to the public. However, the WIPO Center does publish its specific list of WIPO Domain Name Panelists.

One area that WIPO must pay special attention is Dispute Resolution of Cross Border Technology Transactions and E-Commerce Disputes, suggests Praveen Dalal, managing partner of New Delhi based IP and ICT law firm Perry4Law and a Neutral at WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Centre. The future disputes would be Techno Legal in nature and WIPO must be well prepared to deal with the same, suggests Dalal.

Although WIPO is world renowned for its domain name dispute resolution services yet in areas like cyber law disputes, cyber forensics disputes, e-discovery related disputes, etc, WIPO is still establishing itself.

WIPO must establish a ?Separate and Dedicated List? of Panelists who can manage the Techno Legal Disputes in an effective manner, suggests Dalal. This List must be made Public so that the expertise of Panelists of WIPO is well known in advance, suggests Dalal.

This seems to be a good suggestion that WIPO must seriously consider. Its present list of domain name specialists is not reflective enough upon its true capabilities. With growing competition from other international institutions and organisations like European Union (EU), United Nationals Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), etc, WIPO cannot afford to take it lightly.

Even at the national level, ODR services providers like Perry4Law and Perry4Law Techno Legal Base (PTLB) have been working hard in his regard. In fact, Perry4Law and PTLB have recently provided the first Technology Dispute Resolution Policy of India and ODR Policy of India.

Bilateral agreements between various countries may also be beneficial in this regard. EU India has lots in common in this regard and we must engage in an EU India ODR Development Dialogue, suggests Dalal. Let us see how the techno legal ADR and ODR dispute resolution services would take a shape in the future.

Many people ask me: I haven?t had any problems with my Hyundai Santa Fe yet, do I really need an extended warranty? The answer is simple ? Yes: every automobile on the road has its problems which lead to the possibility of a mechanical failure. The older your Hyundai Santa Fe gets and the more miles that are put on it, the more likely it is that a breakdown or problem occurs. Unfortunately, Hyundai?s warranty is only there to protect you for a limited amount of time. Parts such as computer-related items often fail regardless of your driving habits and with the complexity of vehicles today one major repair often costs more than the extended warranty itself. An extended warranty will be there for you when Hyundai is no longer there to protect you from high repair costs. If you drive a Hyundai Santa Fe, you owe it to yourself to look at purchasing an extended warranty from the link below and getting the piece of mind that comes with it:

Another Samsung WiFi Galaxy Tab 10.1 hits the FCC, this time dubbed GT-P7310

This week brought news that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be released into the wild in just a few days. Today, a WiFi tablet from the Korean company made its way through the FCC bearing model number GT-P7310. Which, you see, is slightly different from the GT-P7510 moniker we saw in another FCC filing earlier this month, and this ended up being the limited edition 10.1 passed out at Google I/O. While some may think that this could well be the 8.9-inch version of Sammy's Android tablet, the above drawing is actually identical to the previous one bar the extra text at the bottom, so our money's on 10.1 again -- maybe this variant is destined for other countries? We shall see.

Update: A big more digging found a pair of 10.1-inchers demonstrated in Monaco with models listed as the GT-P7300 (a WiFi plus 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1) and GT-P7310, which, you guessed it, is a WiFi-only version.

Dot Physics: The Book

Yes, I finally finished this sucker. What is it? It is an ebook.

Just Enough Physics (Amazon)

Basically, this is some of my older posts (much older) where try to explain different physics concepts. The book only covers the material you would typically find in a first semester algebra-based physics course. Ok, here are the answers to the questions you might ask:

Why did you write this?

Why not? Really, I didn?t write this book. Instead, I wrote some blog posts and turned into a book. The original idea was that I could write a series of posts that would explain the basic concepts I keep coming back to. After getting a whole bunch of these completed, I realized that it was essentially a textbook. So, boom. There you go.

Why is it a book then? Isn?t this stuff in your blog?

Yes. It is all online. You could find this stuff if you wanted to read it online. Here is a list of the posts that I used. However, it might be more useful to have it as an ebook. This is slightly different ? some of the errors in the posts were fixed.

So, is it a textbook or not?

Yes. It is a textbook and it is not a textbook. If you want it to be a textbook, then it is. Oh, but there are some difference between my book and a traditional textbook.

 • It doesn?t have any homework questions.
 • The homework questions that it doesn?t have aren?t broken into sections (these are 1-d kinematics with zero acceleration problems ? see page 38 for an example).
 • There are no side bars. Why do textbooks always like to put so much stuff in the side bars?

If it isn?t a textbook, it could be a supplement to a textbook. Or maybe it could be a refresher physics book. Whatever you want it to be.

What level is this aimed at?

When I wrote the stuff, I was thinking about the introductory algebra-based physics course. However, this seems to be very similar to many high school physics courses (at least in terms of content). If I had to pick a level, it would be in between those two. Could others find it useful? I hope so.

How do you make an ebook anyway?

Step one: search online for a nice howto. Step two: do it. I am not an expert, but if there was a lot of demand ? I could write up some details on this.

Will there be another ebook?

Always in motion is the future. I would like to write some more ebooks ? but why don?t we just see how well this one goes?

Acknowledgments:

You can?t write an ebook by yourself. Well, you can but there will be errors. So, I would like to thank the following helpers (in no particular order):

 • Blog Readers: You. Yes, you helped with your comments and feedback. Keep up the good work.
 • Khandan Simmons.
 • My wife, Ashley (for being a perfectionist).
 • Monica Sommerfeld.
 • Sarah Robertson.

I wonder whether or not I should venture into the fray. As a continuously aspiring writer it's tempting, but at the same time it's frightening, since there is some risk involved when taking a stance. But avoiding risk for the sake of avoiding risk is a rather cowardly attitude towards life which is?both inherently and of necessity?risky. 1

So I think I'll go ahead and chance whatever it is that's at stake by contributing my own humble opinion to the debate over the MFA programs in Creative Writing that have become so popular, especially in the United States, during the past fifty years.

The question is not, perhaps, so much, ?Can writing be taught?? or ?Can artists be fabricated?? as it is: ?What do we mean by ?art?'? And what does ?art' mean to each of us, both personally and socially? And how much do we value the existence in our lives and societies of such obviously nonfunctional products as the ?work of art?'

But these questions are never raised nor even alluded to in the debate inspired by Elif Batuman's critique in the London Review of Books of Mark McGurl's 2009 study of the influence of creative writing programs on contemporary American fiction, The Program Era: Postwar Fiction and the Rise of Creative Writing, and his response to her criticism in the Los Angeles Review of Book.

It occurs to me that the disparity between these two Doctors of Literature (both Batuman and McGurl are graduates of one school or another at Harvard, and each holds a PhD in Comparative Literature) is adequately represented by the pair of publications in which they have voiced their academic opinions: Los Angeles is not only half way around the world from London, but culturally it couldn't be much further removed from the center and command post of a long deceased empire upon which the sun didn't set for a couple of hundred years.

Reading the debate was like watching a fencing match when you don't know all the rules (i.e., all of Batuman's allusions to the 18 th century forerunners of the technical experiments that McGurl regards as not only contemporary, but attributable to the synergy produced by the MFA programs that he has sought to defend from what he considers the ?pervasive contempt? for these programs, particularly among literary snobs). As a spectator ignorant of these rules you can understand that something intricate and supposedly serious is happening here, though you can't quite figure it out: there is every variety of thrust, parry and counterthrust, but none of the jabs seem to strike home.

Personally I don't think it takes either a PhD or the time and energy that McGurl must have put into researching his book to recognize the fact that contemporary American fiction is, generally speaking, very highly technically proficient, yet often lacking in what I would call vision, and perhaps even soul. Obviously technique can be taught and learned, even mastered. But what an MFA program will rarely, if ever, teach a writer to do is to look and truly see.

Hemingway encouraged the aspiring writer to think hard about what he or she really felt in response to what they saw, and to distinguish that individual and perhaps even unique feeling from what he or she was supposed to feel. This requires considerable effort and a great deal of solitude and lonely reflection, not to mention fearless honesty and sometimes brutal introspection. In an age in which not only the expression of our feeling, but the thinking behind that expression are subject to hypercritical scrutiny by the PC censors, this challenge is obviously heightened.

Likewise Rodin told Rilke to go and stare at bricks long enough to begin to see something in the brick other than, or beyond, the hard and sooty fired clay.

And Constantine Cavafy noted that ?The visible is seen with a little observation. Art,? he said, ?is what the artist invents.?

That invention requires the capacity for creativity, a characteristic of human nature which we all possess to some extent. It is the development of this capacity that can be favored by any environment which simultaneously stimulates creativity by assigning it and the methods by which it is achieved some meaningful and perhaps even (though not necessarily) transcendent value, while also suggesting a hammer and nails approach to the creative responses?via whichever medium the particular artist happens to be involved with?to real human difficulties, the nuts and bolts of our experience.

While art schools and creative writing programs adequately supply budding painters and sculptors and writers with a network of sympathy and support for their aesthetic endeavors, and in this way provide these artists with a sense of doing something that matters after all, they too often generate a self-affirming and secluded ambience or bubble within which the would-be artist is cut off from one of the essential elements that artists need most: the multifaceted risks of living in the ?real world.'

This interpretation might account for the technical achievements associated with MFA programs and the lack of stirring content that some of these writers go on to produce?the ?mediocrity? that Batuman complains about.

Camus said, in the introduction to his collected essays, that some of them were written when he was very young, as if to excuse himself for his innocence. This ?innocence,' the heart in Camus' early writing in particular, is one of its greatest charms. And being a particularly gifted writer (his nemesis Sartre complained about how well Camus wrote) Camus' early writings are also imbued with poetic insight and even love.

But most of us cringe when we reread what we wrote when we were twenty, or even thirty. And this is where the MFA programs get it wrong. How can they?or anybody, for that matter?expect such unseasoned though enthusiastic young people who have barely begun to live to make much of anything out of their limited experiences?

I'm not suggesting a legal age for the writing of fiction, but I am suggesting a possible, if only partial, explanation for the two main qualities most often associated with MFA writing?the technical expertise accompanied by the apparently weightless content. Most young people are eager and natural students, provided they are interested in what they are learning. Like sponges, small children effortlessly soak up all sorts of bits and pieces of information as they mimic their mentors. But it takes time to transform this information into knowledge and understanding.

The Chinese say that ?Some people are born with knowledge; some are given the gift of knowledge from heaven; some gain knowledge through consistent hard work and study.? 2 This is a means of accounting for natural talent, such as Camus had, or the lack of it, which is far more common. Fortunately for those not blessed by heaven's grace there are various and non-exclusive ways of going about acquiring the coveted knowledge and mastery all artists seek. And in the end what matters most is the fact that knowledge once acquired, no matter how it was acquired, is the exactly same thing.

I think it is the acquiring of that knowledge that counts most towards the making of good writers and good writing, the usually long and arduous process of fusing technical know-how with the substantive material of having been involved for a while in living both fully and intensely. Rilke talked about what he called ?blood writing,? and like so many other masters he suggested that one has to suffer in order to acquire the necessary knowledge required to make lasting art. Perhaps the MFA programs should include a mandatory three or even six credit course in staring at bricks: or better yet, tossing and laying those bricks, one by one.

Elegant look to your home:

Trespass the Sun?s Heat in Winter:
Sunlight provides heat, even in the middle of winter. Leaving your windows closed, but opening your drapes, window blinds can allow the sun?s heat to be absorbed by your furniture, flooring and carpeting. This heat is then released into the rooms of your home at no cost to you. Darker carpets and? furnishings will absorb more of the sun?s heat than lighter colors, so you may wish to strategically place dark throw rugs near your windows that receive sunlight during the day.

Avert the Summer heat with Window Treatments:
In the summer, you might use your heaviest window treatments to impede the day?s hottest sunlight from entering your home, reducing its ability to heat your home. Blinds which has light, reflective color on the exterior and a darker color on the inside will increase the cooling effectiveness of window treatments in the summer by reflecting more light away from your home and creating a dimmer, cooler environment within your home.

By reducing the amount of sunlight that enters your rooms, consequently you will be able to reduce your utility bills. Besides enhancing the look and feel of a room, they can also reduce how high your fuel bills are. In fact, a window blind is so efficient that it can pay for itself in a short amount of time.

Window blinds will act as a cost effective means to reducing your energy costs within the home by impeding heat from the summer sun and maintaining a constant, more comfortable temperature in the winter months with only minimal effort and expense on your part.

Walking Under My Own Shadow: Malacca. Food.

First lunch. Yong Peng fish ball at the corner of Jalan Malaka Raya. they claimed to be very famous from the looks of published newpapers around. But.....?food portion is small and i think its expansive for a meal that quantity.?

?Nevertheless, hunger is satisfied for round 1.

I like their green coffee. Not green in colour, but when you drink it u feel greener. There's a taste of green there.?

Day 2, Jonker Walk. from A to Z u find all sorts of food. main course, desserts, appetizer. Food haven.

When you come Malacca, one food you shouldn't miss is the chicken rice ball. And there's one?in-obvious?stall with an obviously freaking long queue. [Illustration below shows the time when there's less people. When we exited after lunch, the queue was until the?road sign, which is approximately 5 times this current queue.]

There you go. Trust me. the food taste WAY better than it looked. For the chilli, thumbs up for aces! Price-wise.... I would say its worth the money.

I bought this muachi cause a kid prepared it. Taste fine, not very sweet, but the peanuts are a bit coarse.

Famously known for her durian craze, someone manage to find the ultimate durian products. 100% effective in chasing bugs in your car and swear never returned for the rest of their life.If you fall into that category as well, congratulation. The durian ice-cream and puff is a must-try. There's durian pancake at the night as well. Looks alike normal pancakes, but the degree of threat is much higher than normal pancake with corn.Cendol with gula melaka, and DURIAN. [you may skip this if you prefer normal cendols. they sell those too and with a fine tune of taste.]

Now would you like yourself getting honked by cars cause you stopped and buy soya? They will.

Couldn't try the cold ones cause i was in the midst of getting well from cough. Aroma of soya is there. Sweetness adjustable. taste just fine. And no preservatives added (i think) . =D

Satay celup Capitol doesn't open until evening. So we decided to head back and rest before start our food hunt for the night. We were warned to be there on time when it opens. And guess what? This is the punishment for being HALF AN HOUR LATE.

In the end we ate satay celup at another shop few units away (which the outer part are filled with people who was waiting to eat Capitol's). The shop was empty. We were the pioneer that led more people into their shop (but they never gave us discount T.T)

Presenting, satay celup. Its like typical lok-lok. However, instead of normal clear/tomyam/curry soup, u cook your food in hot steaming peanut gravy. I never had the patience to wait for capitol, so i couldn't make any comparison. Conclusion however, I was satisfied.

The night was filled with too many foods and goods until i forget i'm suppose to blog about it >.<. Nevertheless, still managed to took some photo..?

Potato tornado, i called it. Only seen that in Jonker, and a lot of people are selling it. The process is almost similar, the that the dressing or recipe might vary by a bit. Crispy and heaty, i drank a whole bottle of mineral water instantly after finishing this.?

Dinner/Supper. Laksa at one corner where plenty of food and drinks are being sold. Finally a place to SIT and EAT. However, we were full with other food that we couldn't afford to absorb another bowl of wan tan mee which looked nice.

And we went back with a stomach filled, literally. =D

Team Building: Cutting it Short ? What's up with That? ? Team ...

Posted on by Anne Thornley-Brown, M.B.A.

First of all, I?m focusing on facilitated business team building not team actitivites or experiences that are primarily recreational.

During the planning phases, there is pressure to offer more content in shorter and shorter timeframes. This is nothing new, it has been a trend for well over a decade. Unfortunately, when the timeframe is too short, the session isn?t as interactive as it could be and participants often leave feeling rushed, pressured and just ?not getting it?. For this reason, our company has not gone the route of delivering short team building but we have stuck to the following model deliverd over 2 1/2 ? 3 days:

 • Executive Briefing
 • Team Briefing
 • Business Simulation with or without recreation to flesh out the theme
 • Debriefing
 • Business Application

(We have a couple of programmes that follow this model using a 1 day timeframe e.g. Restaurant Inc.)

Has it cost us business? Absolutely?.but we would rather deliver a quality service that produces results than cut things short and deliver less than optimal results.

ln a recent blog, I discussed the pitfalls of 1 day team building:

One Day Team Building : Is it enough?

http://bit.ly/shortteambuilding

What we are noticing is that, with increasing frequency, there is pressure to cut team building short on the last day. Suddenly there is pressure to wrap things up shortly, end the session early to let people go back to the resort early or have more free time for shopping. When this happens what do we do? We ensure that the CEO is aware of what is less and we give options to ensure that the team gets value out of the time and money that has been invested. We caution that cutting short the debiefing will guarantee that the analytical learners never have an opportunity to tie up loose ends.

What happens after this discussion? Sometimes, one of the recreational activities gets cut. At other times, instead of breaking into groups for the last few exercises, they are completed with the group as a whole. One thing is certain, in future the debriefing and the first part of the business application exercises will not be left until the last day. More recreational activities will be shifted to the last day so that if things get cut short, we can still deliver a full business simulation.

I have some ideas about why this is taking place but I want to hear from blog visitors first. Any comments that would shed light on some of these dynamics and propose solutions would be great.

Questions for Discussion:

My questions are:

 • Are any of the other members who provide facilitated business team building facing pressure to cut sessions short both before and on the last day of the retreat or team building session?
 • For members from corporations that use external or internal team building facilitators, what is behind this pressure for a ?fast food approach to team building??
 • What dynamics are taking place that lead companies to want to cut things short on the last day?

Personal Bankruptcy

When you realize that your debts are becoming too difficult to handle, you as an individual can choose to file for personal bankruptcy. This situation can weigh you down, but it is a good way to get a fresh start. This is an option that is looked into especially when an individual?s debt is accumulating faster than they can pay it off. When you decide to file for bankruptcy it is always safer to choose a qualified professional who will look into all the other alternatives. If they assess the situation and advice that bankruptcy is the only choice then, you can file your petition which should have a list of your creditors, as well as a list of your assets and liabilities.

Personal bankruptcy filings are normally supposed to eliminate debts that are unplanned. This means that creditors like friends, credit card companies will have to wait patiently to get any repayment from the debtor. Privileged creditors get first priority, while the general ones have to wait to get repayments from the personal bankruptcy sell offs.

There have been new changes to the personal bankruptcy laws. It has become more difficult to declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy which is more popular than the Chapter 13 alternative. Under Chapter 7, most of the unsecured debts are written off, in comparison to Chapter 13 which requires the debtor to reimburse part or all their debt within a span of three to five years.

Personal bankruptcy can be a major block for a debtor?s financial status for a long time to come and can make it difficult for them to go back to their way of life. This option is designed to give debtors a clean start and who knows, you can rebound to an even bigger and better financial position.

Lon's Article Directory ? Why Substance Abusers Fail to Recognize ...

It is a well-known fact that substance abuse results in dreadful consequences in the abusers? life. Being aware of this fact, many people are still abusing drugs and struggling to come out of this harmful habit. Do you know why they fail to recognize the severity of their condition? Read through the article to know about it in detail.

On abusing drug, the mental makeup of the person changes to a large extent. The strength of the mind is lost, resulting in loss of capacity to think and control over actions, thus making the individual ultimately become prey for the harmful substance.

Constantly crave for the drug: The very destructive feature of illicit drug or alcohol is that, it makes a person vulnerable to its use making the abuser constantly crave for the drug. This unstoppable craving for drug impairs his mind from any kind of thinking or analysis. This drive only results in prompt action of consuming the drug excessively, preventing him from having control over himself.

Feel they are in control ? away from painful reality that addiction is controlling their life: Most of the drug abusers feel that they are in full control of themselves. They reject to accept reality that they are slaves to the substance. The drugs create a sense of power, energy and confidence in them, influenced by which they make themselves believe that their mind is in right condition and most importantly in total control of themselves. But interestingly, the fact is that all the above feelings are generated in the abuser only by abusing the substances excessively, which implies that he is unconsciously in control of substances, but not himself.

Unable to recognize physical and mental symptoms: Substance abusers generally fail to recognize the physical and mental effects of drug abuse. They will be under the impression that all their physical and mental activities are perfectly in line, letting the worse to happen more easily. Some symptoms of substance abuse such as tremors, hyper activity, cough, stress, forgetfulness, sleep disorders, rude behavior etc. seem to be normal for the drug abusers. They either fail to recognize or even neglect them as nothing.

Justify their habits: Trying to justify each and every bad habit of theirs is a very annoying characteristic of the abusers. When the abuser tries to justify his habits, it means that he is forcibly trying to convince himself and others that his habits are in no connection with the drug abuse. By doing this he is only aggravating the severity of the problem.

Drug abuse leads to improper thinking in the abuser, which naturally fails him to see the reality. The above mentioned characteristic behavior only aggravates the seriousness in their lives.

Our responsibility ? detect drug abusing pattern and lead them back to drug free lives: It is our responsibility to prevent them from suffering from the deadly effects of the abuse. We should identify the abusing patterns in the individual, much before it becomes hard for the abuser to withdraw the substance. If you are not sure, confirm the substance abuse by using drug testing kits (use reliable ones) available in the market. On identifying the habit, try to handle the addiction of the abuser in a more matured way. An emotional support provided by his associates, makes him feel confident of staying away from harmful substances.

One should provide proper guidance and most importantly assistance in every phase of their life to make it possible for them to lead total drug free lives.

Drug alcohol test is an online store offering quick, easy to use and FDA approved drug testing kits at guaranteed low prices. Our saliva drug test can perform qualitative detection of drug metabolites in saliva. It can also test for six drugs in the human oral fluid.

Trademark Registration Lifts Your Business

If you operate a business, you should go to the registration of its mark. It?s not necessary toregister your trademark. However, there are many advantages of registering your trademark. Often, in so doing, brands are better protected than those companies that have no register a trademarks.

If you happen to be the owner of the company working without business registration, you should register the brand name of performance. The same applies to the business, which provides the response to TPE. It 'amazing that many companies that do not apply to TPE for the registration of the mark. This makes the business at a disadvantage compared to that which has its own brand.

It will well establish your company with having a trademark.

If another company is trying to undermine your brand, you can safely take legal action. For register a trademark, marking a personalized company publicly. The store is sure that no other issue affects your customers using your business name and confuse customers. There have been several cases like the above scenario, and there were legal disputes between the rival business units sort the original owner of the mark. This could very well have been avoided if appropriate measures were taken to register the mark.

A product name or company that has a little R next to the word refers to the registration. But there is more than just enrollment. ? symbol next to the name, logo or slogan means "trade mark" and registration was held with the Turkish Patent and europe trademark Office or TPE.

And 'good for the business of a registered mark with the TPE, as the public is told that you have exclusive rights to that character within the scope of the sector.
