One soldier killed as military truck falls into gorge

One soldier was reportedly killed and another one injured as a military truck veered off the road and plunged into a gorge in Armenia?s Vayots Dzor region.

A Defense Ministry spokesman told media that the accident happened on Wednesday as the vehicle transporting petrol tried to avoid a collusion with another car moving from the opposite direction.

Artsrun Hovhannisyan said there were two soldiers in the truck, both from Vayk?s military unit - captain Husik Stepanyan and contract serviceman Artur Gevorgyan.

Gevorgyan was reportedly killed in the accident, while Stepanyan was hospitalized and was said to be in critical condition as of last night.

One soldier got killed and another eight were injured in a similar road accident involving a vehicle transporting military personnel in northern Armenia last September.
