Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival

The Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival returns to LA for a series of culinary events from August 9 through the 12th. It starts with a series of Chef hosted lunches and dinners on Friday at some of the best restaurants in LA. On Saturday and Sunday, hit up a number of food, wine and cooking demos and the Grand tasting at LA Live. A full list of events and pricing can be found on their web site.
Brew at the Zoo
Griffith Park (6-10pm)
LA?s Second Annual Brew at the Zoo features beers from some of the area?s best breweries like Firestone Walker, Golden Road, El Segundo Brewing Co, Cistamonte, Black Market, and more; plus live bands, comedians from the Laugh Factory, and yummy grub. Tickets are $40 for pre-sale or $45 at the door. Designated driver tickets are also available for $20. Tickets get you 12 pours of 4.5 ounce beer samples. Animal highlights include elephants, koalas, and apes. Plus, visit the new Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles exhibit.
Barnsdall Wine Tasting Fridays
Los Feliz (5:30-8:30pm)
Unwind and enjoy the beautiful Barnsdall Art Park as the sun is setting, from the gated gardens in the West Lawn of the historic Hollyhock House. Silverlake Wine will present four selections of boutique, small production, artisanal wines from around the globe. This week will feature DJ Dan Wilcox of KCRW and delicious food from Heirloom LA, Let?s Be Frank, Gastrobus and Coolhaus. Tickets are $25, or $5 for kids and designated drivers. More info here.
Malibu Family Wines
Malibu (Fri-Sun)
Live music is back at the Malibu Family Wines tasting room. Grab a picnic basket and a bottle of wine from their tasting counter and enjoy live music in the beautiful hills of Malibu. The music starts on Friday night from 7-9pm and continues through the weekend. Shows are free and are 21 and over only. Downtown Los Angeles Food Tour

Discover the best, most delicious vegan dishes while taking in the captivating beauty of historic Downtown LA on the Urban Food Crawl. Your afternoon tour begins at Angels Flight at the bottom of Bunker Hill and winds through the Historic Core. Highlights include: Unique, vegan tacos from Chef Robert Luna, featured in Chef Magazine for his creative vegan versions of traditional Mexican dishes. Delicious artisan pizza featuring local, organic, and seasonal ingredients. A popular vintage diner featured on Food Network?s, ?Diners, Drive-ins and Dives?. It?s time for Street Food Cinema, the swankiest summer fest featuring cool outdoor movies, tasty food trucks and live music in Los Angeles. Bring a blanket, the family, the dog, and a picnic. Eat|See|Hear Presents: The Artist
Orange County (5:30pm)
Eat|See|Hear moves it?s outdoor cinema beyond the Orange Curtain this weekend. Complete with live music and food trucks. Doors open at 5:30, with live music by Hedgehog Swing and Ultimate Bear Hug at 7pm, then the movie starts at 8:30 sharp. Tickets are $10 and are available online.

Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne host their Summer Rib Fest at Lucques, featuring a feast of slow-cooked ribs, hot wings, and sides. A week of preparation goes into the smoking of pork, beef and lamb ribs, spreading the lure of wood smoke throughout the neighborhood and attracting a growing swell of Rib Fest Groupies for the annual BBQ celebration. The family style menu features generous portions of Saint Louis Style Pork Ribs; Braised Beef Back Ribs; Spicy Lamb Spare Ribs and ?Too-Hot-To-Handle? Chicken Wings. Sides of Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Long-Cooked Greens and Grilled Cornbread are included along with a mouth watering Peach Cobbler with Strawberries and Buttermilk Ice Cream. 51st Annual Sunland-Tujunga Watermelon Festival

Featuring Watermelon carving displays, watermelon cooking demonstrations, watermelon eating contests, seed spitting contests, and the Watermelon Festival?s King, Queen and Royal Court Coronation. The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California?s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. Watch girls on wheels as they battle out on the track with two teams of five players each: four blockers (one of whom wears a striped helmet cover as the ?pivot?) and one jammer. Upstairs 2, located above the massive Wine House, offers a four-course dinner prepared by chef Todd Barrie every Wednesday, paired with four wines from around the world selected by sommelier Marilyn Snee. August 26 ? LA?s best chefs are getting together for the cities first Fried Chicken Fest. Baco Mercat?s Josef Centeno, M.B. Post?s David LeFevre, Mozza?s Matt Molina, Mary Sue Milliken of Border Grill, Bryant Ng of Spice Table, Jitalda?s Jazz Singsanong, and Mo-Chica and Picca chef Ricardo Zarate will unite with Marcel Vigneron and Haru Kishi at The Coop, operating out of the former home of Gonpachi on La Cienega. Josh Goldman of Mess Hall will be creating cocktails with Knob Creek, Pour Vous? David Fernie will DJ, and Firestone is providing the beer. Tickets are $45.
