A lot of people would agree that having a dog around the house is really great. A lot of those people would also agree that when it comes to finding tips on adult dog training, there is a pretty big choice out there. We will be discussing a few of them though, so that your training experience will hopefully be much better.
While many pet owners have adult dogs that have never been trained before, many owners are realizing that having a well-trained pet in the house is much easier on them.
If you are looking to train your dog to do some complex tricks and such, you may need a bit of extra training yourself, as this kind of thing needs more specialized attention. If you are looking for more traditional methods and techniques, there are plenty to choose from.
Potty training and the like are much easier methods of training, and can be accomplished pretty easily, and with a small amount of effort on your part.
In order to have a happy, and anxiety free dog, you could try obedience training. This will correct behavior problems that you see needing fixed.
If you have an older dog that is a little scared of people, or certain types of activities, you could try classical conditioning to see if that solves any behavioral issues with him.
Classical conditioning is the process of introducing your friend to situations that may scare him a little, or a lot. As you do this again and again, he will become less anxious or frustrated as you increase the excitement for him.
One simple technique that is very popular is to use something called lure reward training. By using a dog treat, or his favorite toy, you can lure him into following commands with the treat as an aid.
You can use a lure reward to teach your dog to sit very quickly by doing the following:
* Tell him to sit down while using his name. Ex: ?Sit, Chad?.
* Then, take the treat and move it over his nose, behind him. The need to look at the treat will cause him to look so far over his own head, that the result will be him sitting down.
* Be careful not to raise the treat in the air, as the pooch may try to jump for it, and we don?t want that.
* When he sits like you want, you may reward his good behavior with a treat.
A great and simple way to introduce relaxation to an anxious dog, is by the use of a crate. While many people, and dogs associate the crate with something negative, it does not have to be that way at all.
A crate can be used so that the K-9 has a place to go where he feels safe, relaxed and calm. When this is achieved, road trips and sleepovers will be much better, both on him and on you.
You will see the rewards of having a dog that is obedient and trained soon, with a little patience and practice. Once he is trained, you will both have a great and happy relationship.
