Kinect brings new games to Xbox
By Mike Snider, USA TODAY
When is a video game not a game?
A scene from ?Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster.?
Kinect Disneyland Adventures, one of a trio of upcoming games for Microsoft?s Xbox 360 console system using the hands-free Kinect controller, plays out more like a virtual visit to the Magic Kingdom except you can fly.
Disney and Microsoft plan to announce the games today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.
Players will get to walk into a virtual Disneyland, visit the castles and other landmarks and meet Disney characters. ?Everything is replicated to a fine level of detail,? says Disney?s Adam Sussman. ?You can meet and greet and take pictures (with characters) and get on a ride.?

On one ride to be demonstrated at E3, the Peter Pan Neverland ride, players take dizzying flights along with Peter Pan over the skies of London to Neverland and to Captain Hook ?s pirate ship to engage him in a sword fight. Disneyland Adventures is ?something that?s incredibly innovative and unique,? Sussman says. ?Something very different than (consumers) have ever experienced before on a gaming system.?
lets fans of the saga wield a light saber and use The Force as they re-enact sequences from the Star Wars films. ?A key goal is about creating an experience that enables your own journey and living out your childhood fantasy,? says LucasArts? Peter Kingsley.
Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, which unfolds in chapters like a book and lets children join Elmo and Cookie Monster as they meet and interact with other monsters, is ideal for non-gaming parents to play with their children.
?We want to reach new people,? says Tim Schafer of development studio Double Fine. ?There are many reasons they might not be playing, and one might be the controller. I love the idea of bringing new people into games. It?s not just good for business, but it?s good for the health of the medium.?
